In the providence of god the Apostolic Church was established in Sri Lanka in the following way.
1. Pastor Benjamin Selvaratnam was a “Ceylon Pentecostal Mission” Pastor from Sri Lanka, Leaving the Ceylon Pentecostal Mission Joined the Apostolic Church in 1960 while in France.
2. Nother two Pastors who were in “Ceylon Pentecostal mission” known to pastor Benjamin enquired from him about the “Apostolic Church. He refereed them to Pastor Mccalough who was the Superintendent of the Apostolic Church in India. Pastor Mccalough and Fred came to Sri Lanka. Pastor Nalliah and Dwight joined the Apostolic Fellowship. Pastor Nalliah served in Nothern Region Jaffna, and Trincomalee Pastor Dwight in Colombo.
3. In 1965 Pastor Benjamine, who was serving in Lebanon came to Sri Lanka and had meetings in Colombo and Jaffna. When Pastor Benjamin was in Colombo He met Pastor Sam Wicramaratne and Sister Janet who were the Leaders of the “Pentecostal Mission” group of Leaders and believers separated from the “Ceylon Pentecostal Mission” in 1961.
4. 1969 Pastor Benjamin on his way to India visited Sri Lanka and Strenthened Relationship with Pastor Nalliah, Dwight and Sister Janet and Pastor Rajah who was serving in Tea estates also joined the fellowship.
5. In 1971 sister Colette Beuvain from Apostolic Church France came to Sri Lanka. She invited Sister Janet to visit Europe. Sister Janet went to Europe in 1972. She attended the Apostolic Church convention in South Wales in U.K. attended the conventions in kolding Denmark and France, and visited Switzerland, as well.
6. Thereafter Pastor Tom Sauders then President of the Apostolic Church came to Sri Lanka in May 1974. He also explained the Apostolic church teaching and practices. After this visit of pastor Tom Saunders, Group known as the “Pentecostal mission” came under the banner the worldwide Apostolic Church official in July 1974.
7. In 1976 Pastor Sam went to Europe. He also visited many Apostolic Assemblies in Europe. He was appointed as the Superintendent of the work-in Sri Lanka and was ordained an Apostle. Under his Leadership the Apostolic Church work has spread into many parts of the country. His dedication and service is ever remembered gratefully. At the time he was called to glory, the apostolic church had been established on a strong on a strong administration ground by the grace of God. The Church was incorporated by the Act of Parliament No 6 of 1991. Pastoral Council (Committee of Management function on the Administrate Body. There are 25 ordained Pastors December 2007. Three Apostles are supervising the 3 main Region of Sri Lanka.
8. Apostolic Church Head Quarters is at No: 15, Colombo 6 Sri Lanka. God in his providence brought together the Leaders and believers from in Sri Lanka Sinhala and Tamil Speaking communities and formed One Apostolic Church. From a humble beginning the Apostolic Church has spread into all the nine civil administrative Provinces in Sri Lanka, consisting of 50 Established Assemblies and 55 growing new works at the end of year 2007. |
